Overview

History

 The College of Arts and Sciences with the initiative of Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Laura Miriam B. Buenviaje, and Dr. Severina R. Samia as the OIC Dean on September 1, 2009 initially offered the program Associate in Hotel and Restaurant Management (AHRM) in 2010 which was pursued into a degree of Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM). Before the retirement of Dr. Samia on November 8, 2014, the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) was proposed, and Dr. Buenviaje took over the deanship. BSTM was offered in the first semester 2015 to 2016 under the College of Arts and Sciences with Dr. Catherine G. Danganan as the OIC Dean for one academic year. Dr. Elena C. Tesoro continues the deanship of the programs, BSHRM and BSTM, with Dr. Normando C. Simon as the chairperson of the department. In the second semester 2016-2017, the two programs became independent under the College of Hospitality Management. Dr. Simon, who was then the Sports Coordinator of DHVSU took over the office of the Dean until July 2018, and presently headed by Ms. Kathleen Joyce M. Coronel.

 

Goals

 To produce competitive and well-balanced customer-oriented hoteliers, restaurateurs, travel and tourism professionals in the global hospitality and tourism industry.

 

Objectives:

In realizing the goals of the college, the program is committed to achieve the following objectives:

  • Equip students of the features and demands of the industry required to become competent hospitality and tourism professionals;
  • Provide training and skills enhancements in order to enrich their sense of customer service- oriented apprentices;
  • Constant exposure in the current trends and practices to be equipped with the globally developing environment of hospitality and tourism industry; and
  • Establish a high degree of work behaviours and good-natured service quality individuals through persistent instruction and application.

Academic Programs

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

 The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management program prepares the students to be competitive in the   hospitality industry locally and globally.  It aims to:

  • Train students on how to produce products and services complying with industry standards;
  • Nurture the students with skills in housekeeping, front office, and other hospitality related sections;
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills, communication skills, professional attitudes, and excellent work habits in the practice of their career;
  • Equip students with business and entrepreneurship knowledge in the field of hospitality industry; and
  • Become globally competitive hospitality professionals.


BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT

The Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management program prepares students to become global leaders and managers in the tourism industry and/or hospitality sector. The programs aim to:

  • Equip students with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the main ideas, concepts, and principles in tourism management;
  • Nurture the student’s skills in planning, developing, and sustaining tourism products;
  • Develop the students in the field of research, leadership, entrepreneurship, travel agency management, resort management, event management and transportation management;
  • Prepare for the local and global work opportunities as employees, managers, and entrepreneurs; and
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills, communication skills, professional attitudes, and excellent work habits in the practice of their career.
