Studies show that a sound mind and body makes for increased overall productivity and since the University cares about the wellness of all its constituents, the DHVSU Physical Fitness Program was borne, held every Wednesday and Friday from 4:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon at the Administration Building lobby.

The said program was initiated by the Administrative Services Office in January of this year, in partnership with the College of Arts and Sciences. Currently, the program’s main workout is Zumba led by some of the College’s Physical Education instructors and students.

Everyone is welcome to attend the twice-a-week session, but its target participants are non-teaching personnel as well as faculty members who are available during the said schedule. To make the activity more stimulating, joiners are encouraged to wear color-coordinated outfits, suggested colors of which are announced ahead of time.

The DHVSU Physical Fitness Program stems from the Civil Service Commission’s Memorandum Circular No. 8, series of 2011, a reiteration of the Physical and Mental Fitness Program for Government Personnel (Memorandum Circular No. 38, s. 1992), which authorizes government agencies to hold hour-long wellness and fitness programs once a week with the objective of achieving better health through exercise. It is also anchored on The Great Filipino Workout, which was designed to inculcate the importance of a healthy lifestyle and a healthy regimen of regular physical fitness activities as a strategy to reduce the level of risk factors of heart diseases. The Workout was first introduced in 1995 through former President Fidel V. Ramos’ Proclamation No. 528.
