On November 12-14, 2019, the Don Honorio Ventura State University played host to the 3rd Culture and Arts Festival of the Culture and the Arts Association of State Universities and Colleges (CAASUC) Region III, held at the DHVSU Main Campus in Bacolor.

The three-day festival held up the torch with the theme “Keeping the Flame of Unity Burning Amidst Cultural Diversity.” Ms. Lora L. Yusi, Officer-in-Charge of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region III and keynote speaker in the festival’s opening ceremony, further highlighted inclusivity in her speech by emphasizing, “Kasali lahat, lahat kasali.” Also in attendance during the ceremony was DHVSU President Dr. Enrique G. Baking, as well as officials and representatives from the 12 other participating schools.

More than 1,600 delegates across 13 state universities and colleges in Region III vied for the top spots in 22 events with concentrations in music, dance, and literature, with the Bulacan State University emerging as champion after garnering a total of 164 points. The Don Honorio Ventura State University, meanwhile, landed on the 7th spot with a total of 39 points.

Dr. Dolores T. Quiambao, Vice-President for Student Affairs and Services and Overall Chairman of the hosting committee, thanked and congratulated everyone involved for showing “undying commitment” and bid them good luck for next year’s festival.

Overall a success, the festival is an historic milestone for the DHVSU Community since this is the first time the University took on the challenge of hosting the CAASUC III Festival, as shared by Ms. Ma. Lourdes Navarro, CAASUC Board of Management Head, during her speech in the closing ceremony. Furthermore, she said, “I am sure Region III will be proudly represented in the next CAASUC Festival.”

The CAASUC is the culture and arts arm of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), an association made up of all 132 public tertiary-level institutions in the Philippines under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), which holds annual competitions in sports and the arts.
