DHVSU SHS sweeps award at TIMO ‘23

Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) Heat Round 2023 recognized five Senior High School (SHS) students from Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) who bested their capabilities in mathematics following back-to-back success for years in the SHS Department, which was held last October 22.

The students who made the outstanding performance are Infante, Aaron Nick from 11 STEM A for gold, Pascual, Marc Iverson from 12 ABM C for silver, Mutuc, Anika Jhane from 12 STEM A for bronze, Mallari, Jiroh from 11 STEM B for merit, and Magdato, Jericho from 12 STEM C for participation.

“Naturally, I felt nervous and stressed at the same time when I answered because I found it difficult to solve all of the problems that were provided. Since I didn't have enough time to review before the competition because of the midterm exam and was on the acceptance stage to receive a silver, I honestly wasn't even hoping to win a gold,” said Aaron Nick Infante, who received gold at the TIMO Heat Round, when asked about his experience during the competition.

The contest was fulfilled through the guidance sharing of academic knowledge of their teacher coach Dr. Eddiebal P. Layco.

Once again, The Potentials proved and showcased how competitive and determined they are to achieve triumph.

Select BPEd studes virtually attend NCCA-PCEP’s K-GuMa Regional Students’ Congress

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) – Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP) launched the “Kongreso ng Gurong Mag-aaral (K-GuMa) para sa Edukasyong Kultural” on the 16th day of September 2023, held virtually from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This Regional Students’ Congress was intended for graduating Education students from different teacher-training institutions in the archipelago to acclimatize them to become culture-based teachers of the 21st century. This undertaking was perceived along the following objectives:

(1) Integrate 21st-century teaching-learning paradigm in the Basic Education;
(2) Orient the student teachers regarding the theories, framework, and principles of culture-based education; and
(3) Promote the Gawad PCEP of the Diwang Sagisag Kultura ng Filipinas.

Through the lifelong learning feature of cultural education, educators can map out strategies on how to cope with the challenges of a globalized world, such as global health issues and pandemics, terrorism, and the adverse effects that are the global issues affecting culture-based learning. The KGuMa para sa Edukasyong Kultural aims to address these concerns and challenges affecting our culture by sharing how we can surpass adversities using culture itself.

The five pre-service physical educators who attended the said undertaking from the Don Honorio Ventura State University were Christian Louie C. Simon (BPEd 4-A), Kyla H. Dofredo (BPEd 4-A), Kylene S. Lacson (BPEd 4-A), Rodnel D. Cauilan (BPEd 4-B), and Caryll Ann C. Jabal (BPEd 4-B).

Ultimately, this NCCA-PCEP project became a significant platform for would-be teachers to integrate arts in contextualizing, indigenizing, and vernacularizing the teaching-learning process at the basic education level.

Roselyn Arcega, a 4th-year student, won the championship in the Regional Round for BIR-RR4 in the Philippines' Brightest Buwis Masters (PBBM) 2023 sponsored by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on July 7 at the BIR Regional Office in Sindalan, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. Universities and colleges from Angeles City, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales competed in the competition, with 14 participants, including four DHVSU finalists named Aldrich Carl Galang, Roselyn Arcega, Joan Kate Nabong, and Anne Francesca Sanchez, finishing in among the top spots out of an estimated 100 participants in the elimination phase held last July 5.

In addition, the following DHVSU students, Marc Navida, Kezia Maria Salonga, and Meredith Kirsten Ramos, joined and completed the challenge during the elimination phase. The initiative, a component of the BIR's tax awareness campaign, connects students and the country's youth sector, who are geared up to be the taxpayers of the years to come. The principal purpose of the competition is to pique their interest in the subject, increase their consciousness of the path they pursue, and raise their understanding of the nation's tax legislation and regulations.

The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants - DHVSU would like to express its heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to the winners and participants who took part in the competition; it was a tremendous step in highlighting how great the students are both inside and outside of the university.
