Overview of the office
The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) of Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) advances the university’s academic strategy, quality, and program development. The OVPAA supervises academic officials, manages Faculty Development Programs, establishes academic partnerships, evaluates unit heads, coordinates class schedules, and oversees faculty hiring.
Additionally, the office collaborates on student development initiatives and prepares the annual academic budget. By leading council members and committees, the OVPAA ensures academic excellence and effective resource management across the university.
Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) shall:
a. Supervise the Academic Deans, Directors of Regular Campuses, Director of Quality Management Systems, Principals of the Senior High School and Laboratory High School, Office of the University Registrar, and the University Learning Resource Center regarding their academic projects and activities;
b. Manage the University's Faculty Development Programs;
c. Coordinate with the Director of Research, Extension Services, and International Affairs to establish local and international academic linkages with higher educational institutions and organizations;
d. Evaluate the performance of unit heads who directly report to the VPAA;
e. Conduct regular and special meetings with unit heads and committees under its chairmanship;
f. Assess and recommend Office and Individual Performance Commitment and Review (OPCR and IPCR) forms within the VPAA cluster;
g. Approve leave applications of faculty members and individual faculty schedules;
h. Coordinate with academic deans on the scheduling of classes;
i. Collaborate with the Director for Student Services on all matters relevant to student activities and development;
j. Review collegiate/departmental residency hours of faculty and recommend revisions as necessary;
k. Review and monitor the preparation of class schedules and room assignments;
l. Oversee the hiring and rehiring process for faculty members;
m. Evaluate the performance of directors who report directly to the VPAA;
n. Prepare an annual budget in consultation with VPAA staff;
o. Chair the Council of Deans, the Graduate School Council, the Faculty Development Program Committee, the Faculty Selection Board, and the Textbook and Instructional Materials Development Committee; and
p. Perform other duties, responsibilities, and functions related to those enumerated above and as assigned by the University President.
