“Rising from the ashes of ambition, the outstanding Honorian students are like a phoenix; they embody resilience, excellence, and the dawn of a new era in achievement.”
his is how the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) proudly presented and described the official awardees, finalists, and nominees of the first-ever Gawad Honorian (GH) during its awarding ceremony held at the DHVSU Auditorium on July 31, 2024.
Out of more than 35 nominations, 10 finalists were selected, including the following:
1. Yno Cezar Gabriel N. Angeles – Bachelor of Science in Psychology
2. Rae Josiel R. Buan – Bachelor of Elementary Education major in General Education
3. Dannia G. Bondoc – Bachelor of Science in Psychology
4. Jhasper Y. Castro – Bachelor of Science in Architecture
5. Ghilbert P. Francisco – Bachelor of Science in Statistics
6. Daphanie Ariane G. Maniti – Bachelor of Science in Social Work
7. Via Ella Amor Y. Nazal – Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
8. Patrick Bryan H. Porras – Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English
9. Daniel Lloyd R. Reyes – Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English
10.Julius Mark V. Tolentino – Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Buan, Bondoc, Castro, Francisco, and Porras are the five pioneer awardees of the search. The recognition, which will now be held annually, is open only to graduating students of DHVSU.
“It was not easy to pull out all the limited resources we have, but because I am with the best team, this dream has finally come to reality, now a milestone in the history of OSA and DHVSU,” said Dr. Gloria B. Gigante, OSA Director, in her message of appreciation.
The GH search is a dream that ignited in 2016 when Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) produced its first-ever awardee for the Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines – Region 3, in the name of Aries A. Mercado, a Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Filipino alumnus.
Mercado was among the panel of judges and represented the guest speaker Dr. Lora L. Yusi, Commission on Higher Education – Regional Office 3 Director, in the awarding ceremony.
“This ceremony epitomizes what we, at the Commission on Higher Education, fervently support: recognizing outstanding students for their significant achievements and contributions not just to the university but to their communities as well. Your hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed,” Dr. Yusi, represented by Mercado, stated in her message.
In the welcome message of Karl Patrick Taguberi, Chairperson of GH 2024, he stated that this recognition promotes the culture of achievement through the perseverance of students in various fields and is a way of acknowledging the accomplishments of potential students who can embody the legacy of DHVSU.
“I do hope hindi lang sa mga ganitong programa or sa social media ang pagkatao nyong ganoon, but I can say DHVSU should be honored to be represented by our most commendable students of today,” said Emmanuel Lozano, one of the inspirational speakers who is also an awardee of TOSP-Region 3 in 2019 and now a faculty member at DHVSU
