The Research Management Office (RMO) of Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) successfully hosted a highly informative and engaging webinar via Zoom Web Conference onMay 24, 2024.
The event, organized to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education and the 4th Higher Education Week, saw the participation of 217 faculty members from various colleges and campuses of DHVSU.
The webinar, titled "Detecting Predatory Conferences, Journals and Publishers: Strategies for Ensuring Publication and Presentation Integrity," was graced by the esteemed Assistant Professor Yhna Therese P. Santos from the University of the Philippines Diliman. Asst. Prof. Santos, a seasoned academic and a licensed librarian who ranked 9th in the 2011 Librarian Licensure Examination, brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the session.
Prof. Santos, who is currently pursuing her PhD in Communication at UP Diliman, is the Chair-Elect of the Oceania Chapter of the Association of Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T). She has previously served as the President of the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (PATLS) and has been a recipient of numerous accolades, including the Teach and Innovate Like A Champ Fellowship from the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy in 2022.
During the webinar, Asst. Prof. Santos provided comprehensive insights on identifying predatory journals, publishers, and conferences. She equipped the attendees with practical examples and critical thinking strategies to safeguard their research from predatory practices. Her expertise and well-prepared presentation left a significant impact on the faculty members, enhancing their ability to discern credible platforms for their scholarly work.
The Research Management Office, headed by Director Robin B. Dimla, extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jhud Mikhail O. Aberilla, the Director of the Research Dissemination Office at UP Diliman, for his invaluable assistance in securing such a distinguished speaker. Additionally, the event would not have been possible without the unwavering support of DHVSU's management, led by President Enrique G.
