The concrete walkways of Pampanga State University – Bacolor Campus burst into color as students transformed the campus pavements into an outdoor gallery during the Chalk Festival, part of the National Arts Month Celebration (NAMC) held on February 12, 2026.
The event served as the first major creative challenge following the official kick-off program.
Anchored on the theme “Sining para sa Lahat, Lakas para sa Bawat Isa,” the festival challenged participants from various colleges and departments to showcase their unique skills and interpretations through chalk art.
Office of Culture and Arts (OCA) OIC-Director Rowell Cruz highlighted that the event is designed to be inclusive, reaching far beyond those already involved in the arts.
“Ang ating pinaka-objective dito ay yung matamasa ng mga bata yung nilalaan ng government sa kanila in terms of cultural literacy,” Cruz said in an interview.
“Through this project, we are not only affecting students inside the Office of Culture and Arts, but also those from different colleges, giving them an avenue for self-expression,” he added.
Echoing this sentiment of inclusivity, Prince Daryl M. David, a participant from the Laboratory High School, shared that their featured artwork focuses on the universal right to freedom of expression.
“Yung inspiration po namin doon sa drawing namin is lahat po ng gender, lahat po ng kasarian na nasa mundo ay mayroon pong kakayahan, mayroon pong kalayaan na ma-express po nila yung kanilang creativity,” David said.
A total of six participating groups joined the festival, showcasing the diverse talent within the university and the winners were recognized during the culmination program of the NAMC activities.
