With the goal of establishing a University Research Ethics Committee (REC) for accreditation by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB), Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU), through its Research Management Office (RMO), conducted a Basic Research Ethics Training for faculty-researchers on May 5–6, 2025, at the University Hostel.
Hosted by the Research Management Office (RMO) under the leadership of its Director, Dr. Robin Dimla, and with Dr. Ranie Canlas, Vice President for Innovation, Training, and Extension, serving as consultant, the two-day training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge to identify and apply general ethical principles in research, recognize the essential characteristics of ethical research, and effectively navigate the ethics review process.
“Let us reflect on the changes in the research culture we aim to achieve for our university. Let our knowledge and experience guide us as we fully establish DHVSU-REC. We will witness gradual changes in the way we conduct research in the university,” said Dr. Canlas in his message.
He also shared his experience during his graduate studies, emphasizing the importance of obtaining ethics clearance before administering the research instrument.
Serving as resource speakers for the event were Dr. Ricardo M. Manalastas Jr. and Dr. Paulo Maria N. Pagkatipunan from the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB).
