DOHCLCHD, DHVSU unveil mural about climate change, environmental health

As partners in advocating the impact of the environment on community health, the Department of Health Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOHCLCHD) and Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU), through the DHVSU-Faculty Association, unveiled a mural on the walls of the College of Business Studies Building 3 on September 24, 2024.

The concept behind the mural was discussed by Shanelle Salunga, a graphic artist and Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BSAr) student, while the visual artists—also BSAr students—include Raj S. Salunga, Vivan De Dios, Fernandino Ariel A. Rosario, Vin Salenga, and Flan Andrei M. Franco.

Presided over by Dr. Maria Eloisa C. Vidar, Local Health Support Division Chief of DOH-CLCHD, and assisted by Dr. Enrique G. Baking, DHVSU President, and Hon. Mariefel F. Capili, DHVSU-FA President, the activity highlighted the theme “Maging Handa sa Sakuna Dulot ng Climate Change, Tungo sa Matibay na KapwaLigiran.”

“Through this mural making activity, we are sending a strong message about the need to prepare for the effects of climate changes and to promote a resilient and healthy environment,” Dr. Vidar said in her keynote speech.

She also commended the work of the visual artists behind the mural for their powerful call to action, reminding everyone who sees it of the importance of environmental stewardship.

Meanwhile, Engr. Alvin Antiojo, Engineer II of the Environmental and Occupational Health Cluster at DOH-CLCHD, and Ms. Rowena Pineda, Rural Sanitary Inspector, gave a lecture to the fourth-year BSAr students about environmental health and current environmental programs implemented by DOHCLCHD and Bacolor, Pampanga.

Furthermore, the uncovering of the mural was also attended and supported by Engr. Reden M. Hernandez, Vice President for Academic Affairs, concurrent OIC-Executive Vice President and OICVice President for Administration and Finance; Dr. Ranie B. Canlas, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Training, and Extension Services, and concurrent OIC-Director of the Procurement Management Office and Executive Assistant to the President; Arch. Jerone Aga, Chairperson of BSAr program; and Arch. Oliver Chavez, BSAr instructor.

Other DOH-Central Luzon personnel in attendance included Ms. Yedda Marie Vicente, Senior Health Program Officer of the Communications Management Unit of DOH-CLCHD; Engr. Allen Inductivo, Development Management Officer IV of the Provincial DOH Office of Pampanga; Dr. Janet Trinidad, Municipal Health Officer of the Municipality of Bacolor; Dr. Esperanza Hernandez, Rural Health Physician; and Ms. Joan L. Maniacup, Health Education Promotion Officer II.
