The Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE) students of Pampanga State University (Pampanga State U) secured the Top 2 spot in the Student Category of the Space Business Innovation Challenge (SBIC) 2025 held at the CyberOne Building, Eastwood Avenue, Quezon City on November 8, 2025.
The team ASTRONOUS, composed of Mark Gilmore Arceo, Austin Paul Magtoto, and Jeroeim Echague, with Dr. Mary Anne M. Sahagun as their adviser, developed and presented their project titled "SolarMap PH."
The project is an innovative concept that harnesses satellite data and the Internet of Things (IoT) to accelerate the adoption of solar energy technologies.
“SolarMap PH bridges the gap between data-driven solar insights and real-world implementation, empowering households and communities to make informed, cost- effective transitions toward clean energy while contributing valuable environmental and climate data to national resilience efforts,” said Arceo when asked about the project’s development.
Spearheaded by the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA), the event gathered more than 80 participating teams from across the country—including students, professionals, startups, entrepreneurs, and private sector representatives—with only five teams advancing to the final round.
SBIC 2025 aims to empower Filipino innovators to create sustainable and impactful solutions using free satellite data, such as Earth observation, weather, and environmental datasets, to tackle real-world industry challenges.
This achievement reflects Pampanga State University’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality education and cultivating innovation among its students.
Congratulations!
