“We are now Pampanga State University!”
These words unfolded a new chapter in the University’s history as it was officially renamed from Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) to Pampanga State University during the inauguration ceremony held at the Dr. Ernesto T. Nicdao Sports Center on June 27, 2025.
Following the signing of Pres. Bongbong Marcos of the Republic Act No. 12148 last April 11, 2025, the renaming was enacted into law through the House Bill No. 9989, principally authored by Senior Deputy Speaker of the 19th Congress and Pampanga Third District Representative Cong. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr.
Dr. Enrique G. Baking, university president, opened the program with his inaugural address emphasizing the continuous commitment to transformative and inclusive education.
“This I promise you: we remain maroon and gold in our hearts and minds,” Dr. Baking said.
He also encouraged the audience, saying that to be borderless means there is nothing they cannot do, nothing they cannot overcome, and nothing they cannot accomplish.
“Our new name stands for positivity, sustainability, and unity. In spite of our university with a new name, still we sing for God, for honor, and for all,” he concluded.
On the other hand, local talents were given recognition as the Office of Culture and the Arts showcased various artists from the University.
The audience was also serenaded by OPM artists, including Noel Cabangon, known for his song “Kanlungan,” and rising artist Rob Deniel, famous for his breakthrough hit “Ulap.”
Sam Y.G., a renowned radio and television personality, hosted the event.
With the theme “Legacy of Fire: Honoring Roots, Embracing the Future,” the event brought together esteemed personnel from various government and non-government agencies, along with students, faculty, non-academic staff, alumni, and local government officials.
