"Four years after the pandemic, we are proud to announce that UCLAA is back!”
These words from Mr. Virgilio Cortez, Chairperson of the United Central Luzon Athletic Association (UCLAA) III, Inc., marked the beginning of the UCLAA Invitational Tournament, hosted by Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) on November 7, 2024.
“Tournaments like this paved the way with the opportunity to witness not only exceptional skill but also the power of teamwork, strong leadership and unwavering passion that motivates athletes to excel both on and off the court,” Mr. Cortez said.
Ten higher education institutions from Central Luzon will participate in the tournament, including DHVSU, Angeles University Foundation, Colegio de Sebastian, Holy Angel University, Lyceum of Subic Bay, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, St. Nicholas College of Business and Technology, Systems Plus College Foundation, Tarlac Agricultural University, and Tarlac State University.
Present during the opening ceremony were Dr. Normando Simon, Director of the Office of Sports and Development (OSD); Dr. Dolores Quiambao, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services; Municipality of Bacolor Vice Mayor Ron Dungca; and CHEDRO-III Regional Director Dr. Lora Yusi.
“CHED would like to see it differently. While it is true that there will be some expenses, let us treat sports competitions, sports events, and sports development as investments in our
young people,” Dr. Yusi said in her message of unity.
Dr. Yusi also reminded the audience that the focus in higher education is not only on academic excellence but also on values such as sportsmanship, camaraderie, discipline, and all that comes with sports.
The events are scheduled to take place from November 7 to 10 at the Dr. Ernesto T. Nicdao Sports Center and Bacolor’s Mini Convention Center.
“As champions, I would like to challenge you to play with grace under pressure, both on and off the court. Let’s play and enjoy the four days that you will be with us,” Dr. Simon said in his
welcome remarks.
