Committed to advance graduate education in Central Luzon, the Graduate Education Association of Public Higher Education Institutions-Region III (GEAPHEI-III) gathered for its general assembly at Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) on November 9, 2024.

With the theme “Marching Ahead of the Curve: Strategic Foresight in the Graduate Education of the Region,” the event emphasized anticipating future needs in graduate education and preparing institutions for changes in regional and global markets.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Warlito Garlita, President of GEAPHEI-III, emphasized that the organization’s commitment to advancing graduate education is more vital than ever in the pursuit of knowledge and excellence.

“As we gather here let us all be reminded of the fact that graduate schools across all SUC’s in region 3 is now here to deliver relevant and quality education in the 21st century thereby underscoring the importance of strategic foresight,”Dr. Garlita stated

Furthermore, Dr. Enrique G. Baking, DHVSU President, and Dr. Lora Yusi, Director of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office III (CHEDRO-III), served as the guest speakers during the general assembly.

Dr. Baking noted the potential challenges faced by graduate school educators and leaders and presented possible solutions as part of strategic foresight thinking. “This is a call to action for everyone in this venue to begin using foresight tools to prepare for the future of education,” Dr. Baking said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yusi talked about how CHED is into digital transformation and lifelong learning by asking the audience to strengthen the character of curricular offerings that each graduate school have.

“I could only agree with Dr. Baking in stating that data analytics and artificial intelligence are things we should consider because they are important right now and no longer optional,” Dr.
Yusi reiterated.

The event was attended by graduate school faculty members and students, including those from DHVSU Graduate School, led by its dean, Dr. Dolores Quiambao, along with participants from various higher education institutions in the Central Luzon region.

The GEAPHEI Research Journal was also launched during the event, with Dr. Joseline Santos of Bulacan State University serving as the editor-in-chief.
