To promote health awareness through real-time monitoring, four students of Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) presented an automated Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator System during the Huddle, Analyze, Build, and Innovate (HABI) Design Thinking Workshop, held in celebration of the 2025 National Innovation Day (NID) at Novotel Manila Araneta City, Quezon City last April 28 to 30.
Representing DHVSU are Austin Paul P. Magtoto, Mico H. Yumul, Andrea L. Alviz, and Hannah Noreen H. Nicdao along with Engr. Anthony S. Tolentino, Manager of Intellectual Property Unit of the Knowledge Management and Innovation Office.
During the workshop, Magtoto, Yumul, Alviz, and Nicdao presented their project titled LUSUG: Lingap, Ugnayan, Subaybay, Unawa, Gabay – a device designed to automatically measure a person's BMI to help monitor and raise awareness of an individual's current health status.
“The platform provided a valuable space for connecting minds and ideas that are shaping the future of the Philippines,” Tolentino said.
Joined by young innovators from 62 colleges and universities across the country, the sessions are divided into five categories: Public Administration, Food and Agribusiness, Transportation and Logistics, Learning and Education, and Health and Wellbeing.
The 2025 NID was organized by the National Innovation Council in collaboration with the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development with the theme “FLIP: Forging Leaders of Innovation in the Philippines.”
